Street Hawkers
jTO TIIH I'DITOR.! Sn;,—-I wish to draw the attention of the Borough authorities to a great nuisance, also a great danger that exists. Bannisterstreet was widened at a great expense to the ratepayers, .several thousand pounds being spent in widening and improving Bannisterstreet. The object of this work is defeated by allowing hawkers of fruit, also game, to be sold at the corner of Bannister and- Queen-streets. Two hawkers with their carts were allowed to stand selling their wares at the corner of the most busy part of the town, blocking the thoroughfare during the busy hours of Saturday night, causing annoyance and danger to pedestrians. Surely one of the numerous by-laws framed by our city fathers should apply to this palpable nuisance. The scene on Saturday in this busy part of the town would do credit to the poorest street in London. —I am, etc.,
Rate payer. [For a nuisance of this kind both the Borough Council and the police are responsible. We believe the police did interfere on this occasion.—Ed. VY. D.T.J
