Second Day.

The weather for the second day of the Manawatu A; and P. Show continued fine, and the attendance in the afternoon was between ton and twelve thousand. Great interest was taken in the jumping competitions, some very fine displays of horsemanship being given. In the Ladies' Hunters Competition, Miss Campbell, of Feilding, performed the remarkable feat of piloting to victory the three placed horses. She received a great ovation. The Victoria Cross Competition was won by Trooper H. Beatson, of Feilding, and the Ladies' Hunters Competition by W. J. Bartlett's Utah, D. T. Riddiford's Cinders being second. The Steeplechase Competition was won by J. 11. McNiven's Pickpocket, 11. J. Cameron's Senorita being second.
Tho chief awards in horses were as follow:—Champion thoroughbred, McDonald and Duncan's (Wellington) Conqueror, by Medallion ; champion filly, F. Moore's Oriana; best carriage horse (stallion), J. T. Halderson ; weight-carrying hack, G. L. Sunderland's Juggler. The harness horses and weight-carrying hacks were both very fine classes. Draughts were only fair. The lirst prize for draught stallion was awarded to 11. McDonald's Lord Ellerslie.
Sheep made an exceptionally fine show, especially tli3 Romney Marsh and Lincoln sections. Judging was not completed until late in the day. The exhibitors included breeders from all parts of the Colony. Championships were won as follow :—Lincoln ram and owe, Perry Bros.; Romney Marsh, ram, E. Short; ewe, G. Wheeler ; English Leicesters, ram, Slack Bros. ; ewe, Perry Bros.; Border Leicesters, ram and ewe, Hon. J. D. Ormond ; Shropshire Downs, ram, W. Rayner; ewe, E. C. Woolfender. Two pens of Roscommon sheep, recently imported by Messrs J. Davis and J. M. Johnston, Manawatu, received a lot of attention on account of the immense size of the fleeces.
The cattle championships were:—Shorthorns —bull, Mount Herbert estate's bull, Cifton Coronation ; cow, Mount. Herbert Estate's Bolinda, Duchess of Derimut, 216. Hereford—bull, James Stuckey's Ensign; cow, Leonora. Polled Angus, bull, W. J. Birch; cow, Nelson Bros. The Ayrshire award was first given in cows to Slack Bros., but afterwards altered as follows : bull, Slack Bros.; cow, J. Kyle. Jersey bull and cow, J. A. Mcßae. Holstein-Friesian bull, Mrs J. Street; cow, Newtown King.
For the first time in the Manawatu the dogs were shown under the auspices of the New Zealand Kennel Club. A large number of outside breeders competed, and the prizes were well distributed.
The gate and stand returns for the two days amounted to £32-1 17s 6d, being £83 more than.last year.
