Such was the interest evoked in the match against Gloucester City that the factories collieries and schools, were all closed lo enable the employes and pupils to witness the contest. When the game began there wero 12,000-present.

Gloucester played seven forwards and three halves, and played a fine game until Hudson, three-quarter, was injured and retired, then Glenn (Taranaki), Smith (Auckland),, Deans (Canterbury), Seeling (Auckland), Wallace (Wellington) and Hunter (Taranaki) secured tries in quick succession, all before half-lime! Wallace converted three of Ihem, while Gillett added the major points in the fourth. At half-time the score was:---New Zealand 26 Gloucester 0 In the second half very even play took placo for the first half-hour, then Deans obtained his second try, which Wallace converted. Gloucester had another piece of bad luck, losing Wood (half-back) through injury.
