Masterton Stock Report.
Messrs Lowes and lorns, Ltd., report as follows regarding their Masterton stock sale held yesterday:—We yarded sheep in excess of the advertised numbers, competition generally was keen and some relatively high figures were obtained, one especially fine lot of ewe hoggets submitted on behalf of Mr Robt. Johnston, of Homebush, reaching the unprecedented price of.the season— viz., 22s 3d. Bidding was spirited right through the sale, and only one lot of poor ewes with lambs failed to sell. Cattle, also, found an improved inquiry, and better' business than for some time past was done under the hammer. Prices other than the foregoing ranged as follows :—Butchers' wethers, 22s l»d ; fat ewes, 2_s to 24s 9d ; hoggets, fair, 15s 6d to 15s lid; poorer, 14s 6d; culls, 10s 3d to lis; store wethers, poor 18s; fat cows, £6 to £8 2s 6d ; 2-yr steers, £3 10s to £3 12s 6d ; 18-month heifers, £2 to £2 5s ; weaners, 28s to 29s ; springing heifers, £3 to £5 2s Gd; cows up to £6 10s; plain fat cows, £4 17s Gd to £5 2s Gd. A large number of pigs were also yarded, all of which sold at high prices: Weaners made from 10s to 16s; slips in poor condition and rough sorts, 14s ; stores, 19s to 22s 6d.
