The weather was fine, and the wicket fair when play was resumed. The attendance was 4,000.
Howell's dismissal at 40 made Hirst's hundredth wicket for the season.
Darling was dismissed by a splendid catch in deep field, and Armstrong by an easy one at cover point. The third wicket fell at 51, and the fourth at 152. Scores :--- Australia.-First Innings.
