The Legislative Council, by twelve votes to eleven, rejected Mr Logan's proposal to tax the export of diamonds. {Received To-day, at $.53 a.m.) ■ London, Last Night. The Hon. A. Lyltelton, Colonial Secretary, stated that he was unable to publish a return relating to the system of graduated and differentiated colonial income tax because New Zealand and some Australian States had not furnished particulars. Merchants complain that the 'Frisco mail was again five clays late. (Received To-day, at 7.22 a.m.) London, Last Night. Mr Austen Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Exchequer, prefaced the announcement of tho date of the Budget with the words 11 in the ordinary course of things."
