The following resolutions were passed at the final sitting of the Educational Institute: —

That until such time as the payment of teachers' salaries is placed upon a different basis, all half-holidayson which the attendance is less than 66 2-8 per cent, of the roll number for the time being should be omitted from the calculation of the average attendance.

That the time has arrived for the payment of teachers to be placed upon some other basis than that of average attendance.

The introduction of religious instruction into the school syllabus is not desirable.

That the Secretary of the New Zealand Educational Institute be instructed to ascertain what is the practice in other countries with regard to daily or other inspection of schools by medical men duly authorised (a) to deal with cases among scholars of sickness and infectious disease, or (b) to grant leave of absence to children not in a fit state to attend school, or (c) to examine children that the teacher has reason to believe are mentally deficient or suffering from deafness, defective vision, nose or throat trouble, etc.

That the Government be asked to issue to teachers railway tickets at excursion fares during the currency of recognised school holidays. That in view of the agitation that is taking place throughout the colony in favour of practical agriculture being taught in primary schools, the New Zealand Educational Institute be requested to collect data from England, Canada, and the United States as to what is being done in the teaching of practical agriculture in primary schools. Various votes of thanks concluded the session.
