SHEEP FOR THE HOME MARKET.

An Interesting Comparison

Comments by Home Experts

The following report has been received by the Masterton A. and P, Association on the sheep which were exhibited at the last Masterton Show, and sent to England, per Messrs H. S. Fitter and Sons :—

Class 235. —Down or Down cross lambs —Morrison Bros., pen No. 523, no award Masterton ; first in London, very choice quality; well covered ; very meaty. W. C. Buchanan, No. 522, second Masterton ; second London ; very choice quality ; well covered; very meaty; just a little too heavy. Morrison Bros., No. 524, first Masterton; third London ; very choice quality and mostly well covered and meaty ; one carcase rather too large. W. Cooper, No. 529, third Masterton ; fourth London ; very choice quality, and very saleable size ; two carcases rather plain spoiled the pen. Class 239. —Longwool or longwool cross lambs—W. C. Buchanan, 551, first Masterton, second London ; first quality and meaty, but rather long legs. Perry Bros., 555, second Masterton, no award London ; nice size, but too plain in legs. W. Cooper, third Masterton, no award London ; very fair quality, nice size and meaty, two had plain legs. Perry Bros., 553, no award Masterton, first London ; very fair quality, very meaty. Perry Bros., 552, no award Masterton, third London ; fair quality, meaty, but rather plain legs.

Class 231.—Down or Down cross maiden ewes and wethers—Morrison Bros., 509 a, first award Masterton, first awardLondon;very prime quality, short legs, very full of meat, nicely covered, and the only thing against them is that this would be rather a heavy weight to ship in large quantities. Perry Bros., 509, third Masterton, second London; choice quality, very useful size, but the legs of one or two rather plain ; no doubt many buyers would consider these worth more per lb. than the previous lot.

Class 230. —Longwool or longwool cross maiden ewes or wethers —Perry Bros., 504, first Masterton, first London ; very fair quality, useful size, rather long legs.
