THE HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION.

The Premier, to day, received a deputation of traders on the question of a universal ha'f-holiday. They pointed out that Saturday would be an inconvenient day for closing and urged that a referendum on the question be submitted to the people in such a way that they would be able to give a proper answer. Mr Seddon said he was not going to use any Government influence respecting the Shops and Offices Bill, but leave it to Parliament. He admitted tho force of the deputation's contentions and it wag for the traders to influence the public in the direction indicated by them.
