The number of men now employed on the Government roads and railways is 3442, comprising 2151 under the Public Works Department and 1291 under the Department of Roads. Twelve men arc working on Grahamstown railway extension, 53 on Helensvillo northwards, '240 on Paeroa-Waihi, 48 on Gisborne-Karaka. 948 on North Island Main Trunk, 46 on Stratford-Whangamomona, 8 on Mt. Egmont Branch, 110 on BlenheimWaipawa, 156 on Midland, 28 on ReeftonInangahua, 26 on liokitika-Ross, 50 on Coal Creek, 80 on Ngahere-Blackball, 237 on Otago Central, 11 on CatlinsSeaward Bush, 18 on Heriofc extonsion.
