CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent)
Mr J. J. Meikle intends to give an open air address at Carterton to-night.
The Tennis Club will hold its official opening on the Bth of October. Eleven new members have recently joined, and the Club will be exceptionally strong this season in both lady and gentlemen players. The hockey victory over Masterton has given quite a fillip to these games. There is an indication that an effort will be made to lose the poll for the open races, and then press forward the high pressure extension. The open races are being voted for under the impression thao those who would use them voted for the high-pressure original loan. It is now beginning to be thought that these voted altogether against the proposal, and therefore have not the claim to consideration that is set up for them. In fact, in giving them either water-races or high-pressure, with more rates, they would be given what they really don't want. A r ot'ng is, therefore, not likely to be any way unanimous.
