VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

The Government pirade of the Masterton Rifle Volunteers was held last evening. The muster was the largest for over two years, being fifty strong. The Company were made to represent a battalion of two companies, Lieut. Morton having charge of No. 1 Company, and Sergeant-Major Brighting of No. 2 Company, and they were put through some useful battalion drill. Recruits are being enrolled at every parade, and the Company is gradually being brought up to the full strength. At a meeting held affcar parade, Sergeant-Major Brighting was unanimously elected junior subaltern. At the present time, the Masterton Corps can compare veiy favourably in respect of its ranks, above that of private, with any Corps in any of the districts, all its non-coms now being certificated.

The Wairarapa Native Mounted Rifles are now holding drill in three places, at Te Ore Ore, Papawai and Kohunui, "those at this last place being a new detachment. The local men will parade at Te Ore Ore to-day, Lieutenant Te Tau in command. Captain Jury will com mand at Kohunui.
