Tbe House resumed at 7.80. empowering mix. After nearly two hours' debate the second reading of the Borough of South Dunedin Empowering Bill (Mr T. Sidey) was agreed to on the voices. ADMINISTRATION ACT AMENDMENT. The Hon. J, McGowan moved the second reading of the Administration Act Amendment Bill, which has already passed the Legislative Council. The chief intention of the Bill is to make it clear that in the futuie the power to grant probate is confined to Judges of the Supreme Court; but it validates probates granted in the past by certain registrars. The Leader of the Opposition said it was quite evident to him that there had been gross carelessness somewhere in allowing Registrars to grant probate without the sanction o£ the law. After a short debate, the second reading was agreed to. EVIDENCE BILL. The Hon. J. McGowan moved the second reading of the Evidence Bill, already passed by the Legislative Council, which is a consolidating measure. This was agreed to. LAAV AMENDMENT. The Hon. J. McGowan moved the second reading of the Law Amendment Bill, which, he explained, was designed to remove certain anomalies that had been proved to exist in both our Common and Statute Law. It had already passed through the Legislative Council.

The second reading was agreed to, and the House rose at 11.5.
