Wellington, This Day.
There is evidently going to be an overwhelming crowd present to witness the football match in the Athletic Park.
As early as seven o'clock this morning knots of young fellows, with bags of provisions, were making their way towards the scene of action, and now, at eleven o'clock, a steady stream of traffic is flowing in the direction of Ncwtown.
The electric tram cars arc running from the Queen's Wharf along Jervois Quay, and are packed with people.
It is, for Wellington, simply a perfect day, with sunshine and a gentle breeze from the north.
Both yesterday afternoon and to-day the city is activity itself in the main streets, for thousands of visitors from the country and from other towns are in evidence wherever one goes. Even at Christinas time one hardly sees such a throng. It is, moreover, a well-dressed multitude. Many have attended from long distances, at considerable expense, and it is obviously only well-to-do persons who can afford an excursion of this character.
