The Social.
In the evening a Social was held in the commercial room of the Central Hotel (Mr J. H. Pauling in the chair). Songs were sung by Messrs Tootell, MeEwen, Pawson, Masted, Fawoett, Hall, A. Nicol, Iggulden, Brogan and Goodall. Mr A. Maxted also contributed a stepdance. Messrs McEwen, H. Fawcett, and A. Burley played the accompaniments. The following toasts were honoured: — " The King," " Masterton Quoits Club," " Ladies," " Patron, President and VicePresidents." The toast, " Captain Pauling" was also proposed and honoured, and, in responding. Mr Pauling spoke in hopeful terms of the future of the Club. Although it had only been in existance some four or five weeks they now numbered some forty enthusiastic members. As a lover of the game, he was deeply interested in the welfare of the Masterton Club; he hoped in the near future they would be able to arrange matches with kindred clubs in the district. The gathering dispersed at eleven o'clock, one and all having thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
