VETERANS' ASSOCIATION.

Speech by the Premier.

(By Telegraph—Press Association). Palmekston North, This Day.

The South Afrioan veterans in the Manawatu district have formed an Association, and last night they celebrated their first anniversary with a dinner, which was largely attended by soldiers and townspeople. Amongst the guests was the Premier who, in the course of a patriotic speech, said a struggle was imminent in the Far East, and he expressed the opinion that the sympathy of the people was with the Japanese. He also emphasied the importance to Australasia of preventing the Bussiana getting possession of the sea-board of Manchuria, from which she could menace the Pacific.
