CRUELTY TO A HORSE.
Accused Severely Dealt With.
At the Feilding SM. Court, a man named Walter Woodman was charged with maiming a horse. It was stated that on 29th November last, the horse wandered to a plot of land owned by accused that be had shut up for hay. The latter fired a charge of gun shot at the horse, and a second after the horse had run on to the road. Owing to its injuries, tbe horse was unable to work for a month. The value of the horse was £30. Counsel who appeared for accused, pointed out that the latter bore 8 good character, and asked that he be admitted to probation, indicating that in all probability be would have to pay for the damage to the horse. Accused was fined £5, with costs £1 10s 6d, or in default one month's hard labor. The fine was paid.
