Welcome rain set in last night, and as the glass has had a very gradual fall, we may hope for a little more, though at present there i 3 every significance of the weather clearing. People owning gardons look quite cheerful this morning. More people have joined the water supply than when the works were first opened, so its an ill wind that blows good to no one. Our A. and P. Show promises to be a record one, the number of entries exceeding all other years. Mr Bowe Fennel is extremely busy fixing up matters in connection with the opening on Wednesday next. Water! water! is the cry, and applications for connection with the reservoir are coming in faster than the officials can attend to them. No rain has fallen since New Year's Dry, and everything presents a dried-up appearance. The Band played in Fountain Square on Sunday to a large audience. Several test pieces were played, and, to an ordinary person like injself, sounded well nigh perfect. A practice for the marching test was held on Wednesday evening in the Eecreation Ground, and )roved most satisfactory. May they jcore another win. Major Stevenson held an inquiry into ihe conduct of a volunteer —an exjontingenter, who is reported to have nsulted the lieutenant of his corps. The jofces have been sent to headquarters from whence the verdict will come. The local corps, headed by the Euaiine Battalion Band, marched to Capiain Nelson's paddock for the annual
fcamp. I The Anniversary Services in connection with the Methodist Church were .conducted by the Rev. D. J. Murray, of ftlasterton. A special choir rendered some very good music under the conductorship of Mr A. E. Lawrence. Mr Mont. Pickering was married to Miss Effie Dixon at Holy Trinity Church on Wednesday last by Rev. Canon Ecoles. The happy pair left for Wanganui in the afternoon. It is intended to hold a sports meeting hero on St. Patrick's Day if sufficient guarantee can be obtained. The Borough Council granted the Athletic Society the use of the baths free for a swimming contest in connection with their sports.
A remark was passed on Sunday during the band performance that the population of Woodville cannot be decreasing, judging by the number of prams and babies that were in evidence.
