THE GORE FIRE.
A Disastrous Visitation.
{By Telegraph — Press Association). DuNBDiN, This Day.
The losses by the fire were about equally divided between the stocks and buildings, most of the latter being very fine, two costing £10,000 two years ago. Twenty-two shops and offices were destroyed, and only the falling of the wind saved the whole business part of the town, as the Brigade were powerless after a few minutes' work had emptied ihe towa wells; the nearest water was the river, a quarter of a mile away. Many of the people affected had no insurance, and the larger firms who had insurance lost heavily.
