PAHIATUA NOTES.
« _ (From Our Own Correspondent,) The Rev. S. Jolly, of Palmerston, , delivered his lecture on '»lan Maclaren, and Scottish Characteristics," in tbe Presbyterian Church, on Thursday evening. Owing to the wintry night, there was only a moderate attendance, Those who were present enjoyed the interesting lecture. At the close, refreshments were banded round. On Friday, tbe telegraph messengers appeared for the first time in uniforms, which are very neat. I regret to record the death of Mr W. Medhurst, which occurred at Dannevirke on Friday morning. For Borne time, he has been failing fast, and his demise was not altogether unexpected. He leaves a young widow and a baby to mourn-their loss. When in Pahiatua, he built up a very successful saddlery business, only selling out on account of ill-health. He was a non-commissioned officer in the Pahiatua Mounted Corps, whioh oorps intend according him a military funeral, which is expected to tako plaoe on Sunday, in Dannevirke. °
