FIRE IN WANGANUI.

[By Telegraph--Press Association).

Wanganui, This Day,

About four, this morning, a fire broke out in the old Prince of Wales Hotel, now used as a boarding-house, on Taupoquay. The building was completely destroyed as also was the large store adjoining occupied by the New Zealand Express Company and Currie, Lewis and Co's, and building on the other side occupied by Cribb (tailor) and Horvvood (umbrella mender).

Thu new motor fire-engine, of which a public trial was given last Thursday, was used for the first time, and did splendid work. But for it there would have been much more serious results, as the water supply in the mains was very poor. The insurance offices affected are Guardian, Phoenix, South British, and Yorkshire.
