FOOTBALL.

Wairarapa Rugby Union.

At a meeting of the Committco of tho above Union, held at Greytown, on Saturday last, it was decided to grant a transfer of T. McMaster from the to the junior team of the Greytown Glu*/ Mr P. Kjgers was elected a member of the Committee, vice Mr A. McMaster, resigned. A letter was received from the Marlborough Union asking what assistance could be given its junior representative team if a visit wero made to the Wairarapa. It was resolved to offer a £5 portion of the gate receipts. The Selection Committee was instructed to nominate local men for inclusion in tho Wellington-Wairarapa combination to play against the New Zealand team, on 11th July next. The Hawke's Bay Union wrote stating that its representative team would visit Wairarapa on 22nd August. A letter was read from the Manawatu A. and P. Association, giving particulars of a seven-a-side tournament to be held in connection with the forthcoming Show, and inviting entries from the Wairarapa Clubs. It was decided, on the motion of the chair, man, to point out to the Association that tho laws of professionalism prevent any teams playing with less than fifteen players a-side where gate money ia taken.

Wellington results—Petone 12, Melrose 6, Wellington 11, Athletics 6, Old Boys 6, Orientals 5.

The Wanganui Herald writer, referring to tbe New Zealand team, says :— "This coast has been beautifully neglected neither Westland, Manawatu, Wanganui, or Taranaki being represented. Shades of Bayly and Co.! Fancy a New Zealand team without a Taranaki player in it!" The writer thinks a more representative team could have been picked without impairing its strength.
