MASTERTON HOSPITAL SITE.
Meeting of Trustees
Eligible Site Under Offer.
A special meeting of the Masterton Hospital Trustees was held this forenoon to consider the proposed alteration of site for the location of the Hospital. Mr G. Heron was in the chair, and there were also present: Messrs W. Fisher, J. B.Keith, A. W. Hogg, J. Hessey, J. C. Ewington, D. 3. Cameron, and C. 0. Jackson.
The Cotnmittee, to whocn the question was relegated, reported that there was only one site available, so far as they could ascertain. The land belonged to Mr D. J. Cameron, and the site had a frontage of five to five and a quarter chains to Johnston-street. Mr Cameron is willing to sell at £120 per acre, and could let the Trustees have five acre:; or more. One advantage was that the water and drainage is laid along the street. It was also stated that Dr. Valintine, assistant Health Officer, was favourably impressed with tho site specified. In tho course of the discussion that followed it was suggested by Mr Jackson that the Trustees should advertise for a site with a view to getting a suitable site at a lower figure.
Mr Hessey pointed.out that he was satisfied that a more suitable site at a lower price could not be found in the vicinity of Masterton than the one under question. Messrs Hessey, Fisher, Keith and Hogg spoke in favour of altering the present site, as it was considered that it would be economical and advisable to do so. It was pointed, out that the sale of the present Hospital site would go a long way to pay the cost of the proposed new site. Mr Keith moved that it is advisable that the site of the Hospital bo changed ; that the site offered by Mr Cameron is suitable, and that arrangements bo made by him to place sor acres (with the option of taking either) under offer to the Trustees for a month.
Mr Hessey seconded. The Trustees generally favoured the larger area. The motion was carried unanimously. Messrs Keith, Hogg and Hessey were appointed a deputation to interview the District Hospital Board on the matter.
