MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Ordinary Meeting,
The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, held last evening,
was attended by Crs J. Elliott, E. E
Chamberlain, E. 0. Eton, R. K.Jackson,
J. A. Renall, J. Hessey, W. xMorris, D,
Casclbcrg, and J. G. Ewington. Cr Jlcnall was voted to the chair in the
absence of the Mayor, who arrived a few
minutes later
Communications were read from the Clerks of the Mauriceville, Eketahuna, and South Wairarapa Counties, and the
Cartcrton Borough Council in reference to the proposal to appoint a Sanitary Inspector for tho district betwegjfe Featherston and Pahiatua. The from the two former bodies stated that the matter would bo placed before the Councils at their next meetings, and the two latter intimated that the proposal to appoint the Inspector as adopted at the Conference of Local Bodies has been agreed to. Dr Valintine, Assistant Chief Health Officer, also wrote on the same subject, stating that as soon as all the local bodies acquiesced an Inspector would bo despatched to the district to take up his duties; and the Doctor is to advise later on.
Mr C. A. Pownall wrote'requesting the Council to call a meeting of the Committee set up for the purpose to enquire into and determine tho com- m r plaints made by Mr S. Kingdon as to the "unfair treatment" he alleges is meted out to him. The Committee de-
cided to meet this week.
Dr. Valintino forwarded certificates in reference to tho buildings he condemned during his recent inspection. Before acting upon Dr. Valintine's report, it was considered advisable that Councillors should bo thoroughly conversant with the various condemned buildings, and it was decided to allow the certificates to stand over till next meeting, and in tha meantime Councillors to inspect tlM|
The action of the Engineer in inviting applications for the position of valuer to the Borough for the water and drainage
area was confirmed, and Mr A. Hathaway, who was the only applicant for the position, was appointed to carry out the work.
The Committee set up to deal with the sanitary contract was instructed to make arrangements for the ensuing year. The attention of the Works Committee was drawn to the necessity of the footpath in Queen-street, from St. Bride's Convent to Crane-street receiving urgent repairs, and also Pine-street extension right up the Kailway Station gates. The Council decided to accept the offer of Messrs Berryman and Neilson to set back their properties in Pine-street, to provide a chain road from Villa to George-streets, the Council undertaking to shift the fences and construct the footpath free of cost to such owners.
