The Trades' Council has decided to wait on the Minister of Health and urge the necessity of anamonding Act in tho direction of compensating men who are compelled to abstain from work through the existence of infectious diseases in their households, also to have the Act amended so as to compel local bodies to erect suitable hospitals for infectious diseases. Napier, This Day. A contract has just been signed between the representatives of a local syndicate and the Knowles Automobile Company, of Buffalo and Sydney, for tho supply of a motor bus, to run on the Taradale-road. The vehicle will seat 32 persons, and run at 12 miles an hour. It is to be of the latest 1903 model._ The cost of the motive power, it is said, will bo Id per mile. It ia expected that several other machines will shortly be supplied to the same purchasers. This is the firat motor bus service instituted in the Colony, although negotiations are in progress for their introduction in Auckland, Botorua, Wellington, Wanganui, Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin. Auckland, This Day. As the outcome of the action of Mr Witheford, M.H.R., thirty-six selections of Crown lands, in the King Country, known as the Otaneke settlement, were balloted for by returned troopers. There were 295 applications, and thirty-six I were drawn.
