The revolutionary Socialists havo published a manifesto admitting the attempt on Olzolenski's life was made in the execution of a sontence of death passed on him because ho had knoutcd many peasants to death. The Czar's approval of the cruelties, countersigned by Olzolenski, was his death warrant.

The assailant's revolver bore tho inscription, "For the spilt blood of the peasants. Death to the Czar's hangman."
