The Contingent to be Raised,
A Larger Proportion to be Allotted to the Country Districts.
(By Telegraph—Press Association) Wellington, This Day.
The Government received an intimation from tho Secretary of State for the Colonies, that His Majesty's Government will bo glad to have another thousand men raised in Now Zealand on tho same terms as tho Eighth Contingent. The Premier consulted tho members of Parliament by telegraph, and has already received replies from tho majority,' approving of tho idea. He has therefore cabled to the Imperial Govornml_nt that another Contingent will be raised. Recruiting will be started at once out of tho three thousand men who lately applied for enlistment over and above the thousand required for the Eighth. A larger proportion will be allotted to the country districts than in the former case.

Mr McKenzie, M.H.1!., has suggested to the Government that the South Island section of the Ninth Contingent should tako its departure from Nelson.
