MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL'S BY-LAWS.
During the discussion on the Bylaws, rtt yesterday's meeting of the Masterton County Council, the question nvosc ns to tho position of traction-engines in respect to tho heavy frnllic By-laws. It Was pointed out that, if the By-laws were adopted, traction-engines would he absolutely precluded from going on tlio roads during tho specified prohibited months, with injurious effect upon the farmers, who would he unahlc to havo their grain threshed in the winter, and also lo the loss of traction-engine owners. It was recognised by some Councillors the hjustice- of the heavy tralllc By-law in relation to its operations only being enforced on certain roads. It the By-laws \fjjfc} adopted, carriers could only cim'y IPTTr"" specified quantity of limber," which arbitrary clause would have the effect ut( enforcing sawmillcrs to the highly satisfactory and succcssf.il practice of rcturrng with a yard of gravel for every load of timber carted. 'The By-laws were comlirmcd, but after deliberation notice was given to amend the By-laws to make them applicable to pnrls of Ihc County, and a Coiumillce was also appointed to go thoroughly ntu the By-laws.
