POLITICAL NOTES.

Welunoton, November '29. WHAT NEXT FRIDAY WILL TELL. The war is being waged in earnest in the Empire City and ten candidates are holding meetings daily, Saturday night witnessed four candidates speaking from expresses in the streets and in one instance the Seddonite barrackera provided stale eggs to answer the caustic tongue of Mr A. R. Atkinson, with the result that they have helped his candidature considerably, However, the point of most importance just now is the final result so fur as the Colony js concerned. Very full information is to hand of the prospects in every electorate and after a careful comparison of the opinions of those in the know and making due allowances for the sanguine nature of partizans, it seems pretty clear that the Opposition will have a comfortable working majority. Three authorities pricked the card to-day each arriving at his own conclusions from information from the districts., Two of them tipped, Opposition 42 seats, Government 32; the other irade it Opposition 41, Government, 33, the. seat in question being Mataura, where a very tough fight will take place between Messrs G. F. Richardson and JlacNab.' In this estimate all dubious seats were credited to the Government, and all Independents counted as Government supporters, and when the results arq known on Saturday morning I predict that the result ivilj be very near this forecast,' Mr Seddon holds much the same opinion, for his family make no secret of it that they anticipate having to pack up shortly.
