KURIPUNI FIRE BRIGADE.

Opening Demonstration, The opening of the new Kuripuni Firo Brigade Station was celebrated yesterday with great festivity, At 5,80 a tea meeting was held in the. Kuripuni schoolroom, which was numerously attended and was in every respect a success,

A procession, composed of mem,bers of tlio Munioipal; Yolunteor and Kuripuni Fire Brigades left the Post Otfico corner at 7.80, and; headed by Pearson's Brass Band, marched through Queen street to the new station. The streets were lined with people, and the effeoi produced by tho torch and colored lights wqs most imposing, Arriving at tho Brigade Station, Captain Pickering, in a very neat speech, presented His Worship the Mayor, (on behalf of the Borough Council) with the building, and thanked all who had contributed towards its erection. The Mayor briefly responded, and declared the building open, Three ringing cheers were then given for tho Brigade, and another three for his Worship. The proceedings terminated with the band playing the ".National Anthem," The concert which was held subseqvently in the Kurnpuni Hall was a huge success. The only drawback was the lack of accommodation, and this was keenly felt, as many who had tickets could not gain admission. The programme was a lengthy one, and the various items were loudly applauded. Particularly interesting was the drawing room entertainment of the Orpheus Christy' Minstrels, the principals in which were Messrs Woodham, Murray, and Ewington, The musicalselection3 by Keisenberg's String Band were highly appreciated, The following programme was submitted iT-Eolka, icoraetsolo, Butterfly Ball), ' String Band; "duet, !|-Larboard Watch", Messrs Bbagey and fea'jpli; comic song, !'
