At a special meeting of the Wairau Koad Board to-day tho memhors protested strongly against the pro? visions of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Bill, itesolutions were passed objecting to the principle embodied iu the Bill for taxing country districts without giving them representation, on the ground that it was contrary to English institutions, and was, moreover, exceedingly unjust; and also objecting to Borough Councils being made controlling bodies, as they did noi represent country districts directly or indirectly, nor had they a similarity of interests. The Board was of opinion that rates for hospital and charitable aid purposes should be raised locally upon a proporty-tax basis, and that tho Board of Administration should bo elected by property-taxpayers in tho district. The members thought that if the present unfair mode of raising funds by a laud tax was to bo continued the Board of Administration should be elected by the local bodies that contribute to the funds, and be responsible to them.
