WAINUIORU RABBIT DISTRICT.
- A meeting of the Trustees of the above district was held on Saturday last, Present—Messrs Buchanan (Chairman), Martin and Moore. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, The Secretary reported that in answer to a letter addressed by him to Mr Beard, that geiitleman had given an opinion that Education Reserves not in actual use for school purposes are liable to.be rated under tho Rabbit Nuisance Act,
On the motion of Mr Martin, seconded by Mr Moore, and in terms of a resolution passed at a combined-meeting of Trustees held on 28th ult., tho appointment of Mr J. W, Smith as Inspector was confirmed, and the Secretary instructed to acquaint the Otaraia Trustees that this had been done, the appointment to date from Feb. 1,1881. r ;'•■."
A long discussion then took place on the subject of a' letter from tho Awhea Trustees, stating they were prepared to join with the Waiiiuiora and Otaraia districts iu tho engagement of Mr Smith as Inspector upon certain terms,
The Secretary was instructed to write in reply, stating that Mr Smith declined to undertake tho additional work for an increase of £SO to ■ his present salary, or for n less gum (in the whole) than £2OO nor annum ; that as the Waini}ioru Trqstees are most desirous of seeing the three districts join in tho.appointment of one Inspector, they were prepared to increase their proportion of salary by £5 per annum if tho Otaraia Trustees would do tho same, and the Awhea contribute £6O instead of £50,-which would bring the total salary to £2OO, . The Secretary was further instructed to communicate this proposal to the Otaraia Trustees, •■'•;'
