To the Editor Wairarapa Daily.
Sib,—ln consequence of a paragraph in your paper of yesterday's date, to the effect that the Royal Railway Commission were this day to proceed from Masterton to Palmerston, a number, of settlers assembled to receive them, anckabout midday were dissappointed to hear that those gentlemen had gone by .without visiting the settlement of Mauriceville at all, thereby not only travelling three miles further (which they would have saved 'by coming the Mauriceville road), but likewise avoiding a line devoid of bridges, and disappointing the Scandinavian settlers, who would have liked to interview Colonel Pearce, and to have exhir bited their array of spring carts, as opposed to those of the settlers of Pahautanui, mentioned in your leader of the Bth inst.
Trusting that this slight to Mauriceville will not militate the report of the Commissioners against the Wellington to Woodville line of railway,
lam, &C.,
• Resident. [lt is a matter for regret that the Commissioners did'not visit Mauriceville. Had a longer intimation been given of their -intention to pass through the Wairarapa, more satisfactory arrangements might have been made. We feel certain that if.the Commissioners had known the wishes of the Mauriceville settlers, they would have included a visit to them in their programme.— Ed. W.D.j
