CARTERTON.

(PROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT) ' ■ , . Feb. 10. A meeting of the vestry of St. Mark's Church, Carterton, took place on Saturday evening, all the vestrymen being present, with the Rev W, Booth in the chair. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, a letter waa read from the Greytown vestry, proposing , to. form. Greytown and Carterton into a parish. .'After some discussioii on the motion of Mr Shaw, seconded by Mr Vickerstaffj it was resolved that Messrs : Bo.otl}* Snodgrass, arid A. Armstrong be a coiiimittee to confer with the'Greytown vestry on the subject. Mr Shaw-was appointed to.obtain subscribers for the Wellington Church Chronicle. in this district, the subscription being 3s 6d per annum. Several amounts were directed to be paid and,.among others, the sum of £lO to the Rev Mr Teakle, a donation passed at the last meeting of the vestry for his services owing to the much, regretted illness of the Rev-A. Knell. - The meeting -then adjourned, and yesterday evening a general meetin? of the parishioners was held in the schoolroom on various matters- relating to the Church, none of which however were of any moment outside our local circle. ' .V : ' McLean's Troubadors had a somewhat singular fate in Carterton. . On Saturday evening they, played.to a fair/ house, but last night when.the cqrtain skould have arisen, the improvisitore appeared and stated that there would be no performance and all money taken would be returned. ( It appears that the male portion of the troupe had gone serenading on their .own private account, and .were non est when . they should have appeared on the stage. Two of the absentees were caught 'about 9 p.m., and safely lodged in. the.,lock-up, whence, I understand they are. to be released this afternoon,. The-third and' cleverest of the troupe is still not, to be found, and so it •is an. open question Whether the Greytown people will be amused or not. 1
