A TRIP TO PALLISER BAY.

Ouit. party, consisting of twenty-seven persons all told, equipped ourselves for a week's outing at the sea beaoh, and left Grey town at 4 o'clock a.m., on Monday, 26th January. Making our course on the south side of the Lake, wepasßed Luceha's at 5.45 a.m., and reached Matthews' at 8.45. After a spinning ride of 4 hours and three-quarters in the morning air, we were much pleased with the appearance of the land in this part of the Valley, particularly that owned by Mr Matthews. After getting instructions as to the best road, etc., we again started on our journey, and passed over some very rough' hilly, clay land, covered with tea-tree, for about three miles, and had to cross: several awkward little creeks. At the bottom of this hilly land, we found ourselves about, six miles from the sea. The journey along this road was very pretty in places, and the flat land was studded with fat cattle. Fortunately the lake was down otherwise we could not have got our buggies to the beach without going a long way round, but as it was, we turned to our leffcj and got across the flats to our camping ground, whioh we reached at 1 p.m. We fixed our tent near a stream running into the sea, in a splendid spot. The good land here is difficult to got at from the beach, being table land from 80 to 100 feet high. There is only one farm on each side of the stream, one occupied by Mr Eglinton, and the other by Mr'

We were, told oura'-were tHe first vehicles that have ever been in the bay, ahd ; the largest party that had : visited it. We received the greatest kindness and hospitality from Mr and Mrs Eglintoh, who kindly, entertained the ladies and children of our party. Had it not been for-them'we should have been at a'loss'for accommodation. We .confidently recommehd\anyone wishing for a change, to visit Palliser Bay, either theway we went oron the Perry side, and they will not be disappointed.
