The Width of Streets and Roads Bill, which provides that streets should not be less than one chain wide was read second time. Grey moved the second reading of the Prevention of Corruption Bill. The Premier said he would not oppose the second reading, although he was not aware that such a measure was required. Be moved amendments which would cause falsehood, deceit, and misrepresentation equally punishable. The Bill was read a second time. The Municipal Corporations Act A mendment Gill was read second time. The other business was only local. Interrupted by 5.30.
In the case of Lingard v Gillon, to recover £lO paid in 1877, under protest, as dramatic author's fees, the Magistrate held that defendant failed to establish any claim to collect these fees; and in threatening to stop Lingard from going to America, imdue advantage was taken, as it Lad not been shown there existed any agreement between Coppin and Lingard. For these and other reasons the Magistrate held that plaintiff was entitled to recover the money paid, Fitzherbert, on behalf of Gillon, asked leave to appeal. Magistrate said yes, on the payment of the money into court and entering into the usual bonds, Jas. At the inquest on the bodies of the Miller family, Dr France gave evidence that he knew Clarence from infancy, and he always had a tendency towards insanity. A verdict was returned that " Mr
