GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Council was held on Tuesday, August 26th. Present :-Crs Udy (in the chair, Barnard, J. Smith, E, Gray, Kempton, jun., J. Puller, and B. Gallagher. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE.—OUTWARDS. To Institute Committee, re donation. To J. Frethey, advising him of payment of account, except £7 7s, which the Council did not recognize. INWARDS. From County Council, re charitable aid. From Treasury, re subsidy, and stating that same was in conrse of payment. From the overseer, requesting an increase of salary REPORTS. The Treasurer reported the sum of £4o 2s in hand. The followed accounts were referred to the Finance Committee; F. Cole (wa»es) £10; H. Morris, £25 9s 3d ; W. Bishop, £6 4s 3d. The report of the overseer was lead, re works done since his appointment. RESOLUTIONS. It was resolved, on the motion of Or J. Smith, seconded by Cr Kempton, that notice be given that all rates must be paid within 14 days from uotice, or proceedings will be taken. Cr Kempton gave notice that at the next meeting, he would move that teuders be called for constructing 32 chains, more or less, of footpath from the Rising Sun down towards south Greytown, Cr Kempton drew attention to standing water, on properties in Main-street. The yforte Committee were instructed to report upon it.

Cr J. Smith asked if any arrangement had been made re rent of house on gravel reserve, and suggested that the house be insured for the sum of fifty pounds,

Or Kempton moved, Cr J. Smith seconded, that the Clerk write to Mr Darrick, as to whether he was willing to pay 4s a week, as he stated to Crßailliee, and that the Clerk do insure the building for not more than fifty pounds.—Carried. It was resolved that the request oi the Overseer, for an increase of salary, cannot be complied with. It was resolved on the motion o; Or Gray, seconded by Cr Barnard, thai the Works Committee see the work necesiary to be done, and report fully at the rext meeting. It was resolved on the Amotion ol Or Kempton, seconded by Cr Fuller, thai Cr Udy be requested to instruct the oveneer respecting the metaliing opposite Miss Wyett's. : The Town Clerk reported that the cist of 15 Lamps would be about £25. i The letter f.xom the County Council vas held over until next meeting. Re Auditors' salary, it was resolfed that the Finance Committee report ;on same. I
