EXERCISING A LAZY HUSBAND.
A gentleman of the new Twentysixth District of this county informs us that, as he was riding through the country, he witnessed the most novel sight of his life. It was nothing more or less than a white lady ploughing, her husband acting as the horse, mule, or steer as the case may be. He was regularly harnessed and drawing the plough as complacently as an ox. The gentleman spoke to the woman about her team and she replied that " this was the only way she could get any work out of Elam and she would makeliim do what she could." The ploughed ground was well broken up, and showed that the woman was expert in the use of the plough, and that man can be a horse when he will,—American Republican,
Some people arc willing to be good if they are well paid for it, and others are good for nothing. Why is Mr logger's young boy larger than himself '—Because ho is little bigger. At a recent Primitive Methodist prayer meeting held at lUincorn, Cheshire, a local preacher, in the course of his address to the Deity, made use of the following extraordinary words:—" 0 Lord, these are bad times, and there's a good many people got naught to cat, because they've got no bread. There's a good many people out of work, because they've got no work to do, and 0 Lord, they tell me tljat it's all through an old Jew what lives in London, Slay him, 0 Lord! If I slay him they'll hang me; but do Thou slay him, 0 Lord, for they can't hang Thee!"
