Wednesday. An inquest was held to-day on the body of a man named George Fennel, who died on the previous day. He met with an accident a fortnignt ago while shunting a train at Kangiora. His foot was subsequently amputated, but he died from blood poisoning, the result of his injuries. A verdict of accidental death was found. At the sale of racehorses by Millett and Griffiths to-day, a number of horses were put up and bought in. The following were sold privately—Maritana, £350 , Titania, £200; Janoler, £2OO ; McLean, £55. A man named Frederick Hillyer dropped down in a fit this afternoon and.died immediately. . A large amount of stock in the premises of Edwards, Bennett and Co., the scene of the late fire, is found to be in a very good condition. Schwartz's case was continued up to seven o'clock last night ; 'it will be continued tomorrow. The net proceeds of the fete in aid of the Kaitangata relief fund was £706 14s, and is to be paid over to the chairman of the central committee in Dunedii.. The settling of the late Autumn took place last night. The following amounts were paid over—G. Eroser, £592 4s ; Neilson, £273 12s ; E. G. Griffiths, £290 14s ; P. Butler, £137 15s ; K. Vallance, £99 15 s ; W. Mallock, £BO 15s; H. Goodman, £47 10s ; Hon. W'. Kobinson, £25 ; Rowe, £10; total, £1,557 ss.
