Commendation promises to go out a very hot proposition for the Great Northern St. Leger Stakes, run on Easter Monday. The following remain in the classic event: —Commeiiilatioirr Ballaehulish, War Officer, Chamour, Hyanna, Magna Charta, Phaola, Lady Desmond, and Flying Juliet.

After the first acceptance for the C.J.C. Gt. Easter Handicap, 15 remain in the seven furlong race, while for the Great Autumn Handicap, run on the second day, 16 have cried content with Mr Henrys’ adjustments. The C.J.C. classic events do not promise to create much ecitement this year as after first forfeits only five remain in the Champagne Stakes, and two of the number are in the one stable, while for the Challenge Stakes seven have been paid up for, but again Xr ureenwood provides two of the number.

Shirley and King’s Folly are the only two North Island representatives re maining in the C.J.C. Easter, while Rapine, Tanadees, Piuthair, Clarinda and First Acre represent the Northern stables in the Great Autumn.

Without knowing owners’ intentions as to which of the two principal meet iugs they will, patronise with theii charges—Riccarton or Elleslie—the following appear to be well treated in their respective engagements at Riccarton : —Centrepiece, Rapier, Booster, Set Sail, Baldowa. and Receipt for the Easter, while for the Great Autumn Rapine, Footfall, Piuthair, Rapier, Clarinda, Assurance, and Fresco ap peal.

Lysander, who has not recovered from the gruelling be received on New Year’s Gay, is not likely to sport silk again this season. Mr Currie’s colt has had a very strenuous time, and with a good rest he should come up fresh for early spring racing after his we’d earned spell. Fred Tilley will be an absentee from both the Ellerslie and Riccarton Easter fixtures. The Fordell mentor will, however, have a small team racing at Feilding, which is nearer home. Royal Divorce is standing up to his work, and if all goes well in the meantime the imported horse may lie found at Ellerslie for the Easter fixture. Lucy Locket, who scored on the second day at Oamaru, is a full sistei to Boncna, and a half sister to Kilfane and Stream. The Husbandman?Vestalis gelding Euchre made small fish of the other runners in both hurdle events at the recent Rangitikei meeting. On the first day, with 10.1 op his back, on a heavy track, he won by three lengths, while on the second day, with a rise of 14Ibs, be was five lengths to the good as the line was crossed.
