DISCOVERED IK SPAIN. ra nns association—ooftbibh* PARIS, June 26. “Le Matin” says the insurrection in Spain is directed against General de Rivera, with whom the juntas officers are most dissatisfied, owing to his reintroduction of a method of promotion in the Army by choice instead of seniority. Discontented officers have joined the political elements hostile to the Government. MADRID, June 25. A semi-official message minimised the plot, which is declared to be of a Communist rather than Liberal character. The officers involved acted individually, and none were on the active list, nevertheless many arrests were made, and those arrested will be tried by competent tribunal. MADRID, June 26. The King ■ and Queen of Spain have departed for Paris, en route to England, where King Alfonso will receive the Honorary Degree of the Oxford University. They had. an. enthusiastic send-off. MADRID, June 26. The Premier, in a statement to the Press, declared that’ the plot was organised by a few persons on the pretext that they had been deprived of liberty and a genuinely constitutional regime. The Premier claims that the immense majority of the Spaniards wish the present regime and the Government to continue, and they demand severe measures against unscrupulous persons seeking to disturb the country. The Government has decided on vigorous action against the culprits. (On Friday, the French newspaper “Le Journal” received advice from Madrid that the police discovered that a vast political conspiracy with ramifications throughout Spain, directed against ffie present regime and organised by advanced Liberals and Radicals, was to have started this evening. Many arrests had been made, including a well-known sculptor, and the editor of a Madrid newspaper. Two Republican ex-deputies, and a number of prominent Army officers, and an ex-Miriister for War, were 1 , also involved. “The Government is master of the situation,” the report stated, “and the country is calm.”)
