A committee of nine delegates, representing three Internationals, which met for the purpose of convoking a World Labour Congress, ended without result, after recriminations wherein Mr J. Ramsay McDonald accused the Communists of continuing tactics undermining Trade Unions on instructions from Moscow. Therefore he refused to join in the convocation of a congress. The Soviet representative (M. Badek) reproached the second International for not desiring, a proletarian front. He said Soviet members no longer considered themselves members of the committee. The three Internationals are Moscow (representing the militant extremists), Amsterdam (comprising the political or more moderate element), and Vienna (which includes the British delegates and the reactionary section). It is a compromise between the two former. CAUSE OF DEPRESSION. AUSTRALIAN INVESTIGATIONS. SYDNEY, May 25. The Tariff Board is investigating industrial conditions at Lithgow and Newcastle, with the object of ascertaining the cause of the depression, and the tendering of advice for securing a Business Board. It will report how different industries are affected by the tariff. SHEARERS’ AWARD. CONFERENCE TO lE HELD. MELBOURNE, May 26. The parties to the shearers’ award will meet Mr Justice Powers on Friday for the purpose of completing the award. Developments are expected in consequence of the strike decision. i— SHEARERS’ SOLID BACKING. SYDNEY, .May 25. Advices received by hie Australian Workers’ Union from country centres state that the shearers intend to stand solidly behind the executive for the rates and conditions of the Queensland award.
