ARCADIA PICTURES.
TO-NIGHT’S PROGRAMME. JOHN BARRYMORE STARS IN “THE LOTUS EATER.” One of the most unusual pictures ever produced will start to-night at the Arcadia. Theatre. It is “The Lotus Eater,” an Associated First National attraction starring John Barrymore and personally directed by Marshall Neilan.
It is unusual for a large variety of reasons, but chiefly because of the talent which has been employed in its production. The name of Barrymore or Neilan alone on the picture is sufficient evidence that it is extraordinary, but there are other big names accredited to it. Albert Payson Terhune, one of, the most popular of novelists, wrote the story and George Ade, the humorist, wrote the sub-titles.
The supporting cast is especially noteworthy, for it includes Wesley Barry, Colleen Moore; J. Barney Sherry and Anna Q. Nilsson. The Mediteranean, New York City, Palm Beach, and a tropical island furnish the settings, for this story of love, adventure, hatred and intrigue.
Barrymore plays the part of Jacques Lenoi, who does not see a woman until he has reached the age of 25. During those years he has travelled all over the world in his yacht, but has never set foot ashore, in compliance with the request of his father.
But when the time expires, and Barrymore meets a young woman, the complications come thick and fast, and he discovered why his father had made the request. An atempt to cross the Pacific Ocean in a dirigible is one of the spectacular features of the film
