DISCOVERED BY Mil I*ITT, M.P Apparently goaded by tin- frequent use of tin.- word "wowser" in Parliament, where language cnly supposed to bo dignified, Mv Isitt coined a new tenn in tlw Houso the other night for application to certain p'utfiots. "Sowser" wa:j the term applied, and the 'lion, member for Christehurch' Nortli proceeded to describe the habits and customs of persons who, he claimed, merit the definition. The "sowscr" worships at the shrine of four gods—drink,gambling, pleasure; and display .The sowser was half i»u animal. : He was patriotic and loyal, but while he loved his country 5 , be loved his stomach better. Then the "sowser" wa;3J a,' somewhat vain animal—in fact, it was deluded into the idea, that one can make a; silk purse, out of ,a "sowser's ; ear." The "sowser" was also distinguish)able for his implacable hatred of the "wowser" and manifested Ihis on various occasions in porkino groans. T v "» "sowser" was addicted to quoting poetry, having a "particular weakness for Burns, which he quoted so long; as it :;uited him.
