DAMAGE BY HEAVY TRAFFIC.
.With regard to the complaint from Mrs Mary Hunt relative to. traction engine traffic in Queen St, the By-laws. Committee reported to the Borough 1 " Council last night that it ha.d been' promised a, demonstration of the effect 0 f mdi traffic on buildings' (if any). Messrs Meredith and Co. have intimated their willingness to. have a practical demonstration with their engines a,t a suitable time. Cr Atwill: And who would be umpire? Mrs Hunt? (Laughter). Cr Holmes: ft 'would not be right I suppose, to make lany mention of the frightened mayor, '(Laughter)* The Mayor explained! that the demonstration would consist of a wee past a shop door at 10 miles an hour, by an engine and trailers loaded, iand r then 1 a wajfc past |at four miles; an hour. The contention was that aii the slower .paeei there would he no' vibration, ! The Council' agree'effo' th'erecommendfafion. V ; ■ '
