Among the wounded (in yesterday’s list) is Surgeon-Captain Wood, of St. Andrews. Air Victor Grayson, formerly Socialist member for Como Valley, Yorks, arrived by the Niagara, on a visit to New Zealand. Mr George Dash is In Wellington, sitting as an employers’ assessor in the conciliation case on the coachworkers’ demands. Air W. E, Crome, of bell-ringing fame, has resigned the managership and musical directorship ol the Sydenham Picture Theatre. It is quite ou the fards that the charming bellringing act of the Cremes will agaiu be on tour in New Zealand before long. Osman, spoken of by the late Captain Scott “as our best sledge dog,” arrived in Wellington on Thursday by the AVcstraiia from Lyttelton, Tho dog was taken in charge by the care taker of the AVeilington Zoo, to whi ch ho has been presented by Air H. 11. Charters, of Christchurch. On Wednesday last —the eve of his wedding—Air Hugo Ford, of the staff of the AVairaate Post Office, was presented by his fellow employees with a handsome oak tray and salad bowl. Tho presentation was made by Air Pretsch, acting Postmaster; and Alcssrs W. P, Wilson and E. Wright also spoke . All spoke highly of Air Ford’s qualities in and out of business hours, and wished him happiness in the married state-. On the Dunedin railway station this morning, says Thursday’s Star there was -a distinct missionary ingredient in the crowd. The Rev. Herbert Davies, AI.A. and his wife- (daughter of Air Francis Anderson) were leaving for Canton p|Efc©r a year’s furlough, and many persons assembled to see thorn off. Air Davies has worked for about six years in China. He is the- representative of the Young Alen’s Presbyterian Bible Classes Union. This, year the union have done w r cll to contribute! £3OO towards maintaining their missionary, seeing that more than half thej senior members have enlisted for the war. The juniors book up the burden cheerfully* and b v their help the scheme is kept going. Air and Mrs Davies have their little sou with them—Air and Airs Davies arc spending a week in the Waimate district.
