OFF TO THE FRONT. j. e. McManus in the tunnel corps. STRIKES A BLOW FOR DEMOCRACY. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 21. Among the visitors to the Trades Hall to-day was Mr. J. E. McManus, a well known New Zealand and Australian Labourite, who has enlisted in the Expeditionary Forces. Mr. McManus was prominent as nti organiser for the Australian shearers and in that rapacity had many troublous days. He was for some time secretary of the Dunedin General Labourers’ Union, ami was a capable Arbitration Court advocate. He was a member of the executive of the United Labour Party and later on for the United Federation of Labour.
