A Times’ correspondent with the British headquarters wires that one of the most remarkable show places on the western froiit is an inviolate advance post protruding proudly in the forefront of the barbaric ami extraordinary defences due to the dead ly French artillery. The skilfully organised house and street fighting defence- provide an extraordinary sight. At some points the French and Dorman are occupying houses close together as suhiirh dwellers. For long stretches on the front in the suburbs the contending line- are only from ten to lorty yards ayart and nowhere more than 2IX) yards. The civilians still live in the mins of the town in deep cellar--, coming up at intervals in the periodic bombardment. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. WELLINGTON. Nov. 2;). The pilot and ohser ter hist their way and were captured. The statements in the German report ol Sunday are altogether incorrect. SIR JOHN FRENCH’S REPORT. LONDON, Nov. 22. Sir John French reports that the artillery for four days tarried out organ ised bombardment on many j>ortioiis of the hostile lines with good effect. The enemy’s artillery has been active north ot Loos, east of Armenturos. and east of Ypres. An e/iemy air raid on Poperinghe on the eighteenth ami twenty-first of Nnvemlier wounded two soldiers and killed four cows. The second caused eight casualties, lint the others were resullless. MOVEMENT OF GERMAN TROOPS. BERNE, Nov. 2.1 Travellers from Germany reports that from seven to ten army corps are eoueentrating behind the western front. The majority of them are from the east ern front.
