LORD PLUNKET INTERVIEWED.
NO OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION.
AUCKLAND, Sept. 6.— On making an inquiry at the Government House this evening, a Herald reporter was informed that his Execellency the Governor knew nothing of the rumour as cabled from Sydney to the effect tint he would succeed Lord Dudley as Go-vernor-General of Australia. Lord Plunket's term as Governor of N.Z will expire on June 20th of next year. 'WELLINGTON, Sept. 6.— The Hon. J. Carroll knows nothing concerning the report from Australia that Lord Plunket is to succeed Lord Dudley as Governor-General of Australia. SYDNEY, Sept. 6.— lnquiries at Government House elicited the information that there is no foundation for the report of Lord Dudley's retirement.
