DISASTROUS FLOODS.

DARGAVILLE, Sept. 2.— Very heavy rain has fallen during the last few days which has done considerable damage in Northern Wairoa. Last night Dargaville township was inundated by water to a depth of several inches, the river having overowed its banks. Several business firms suffered heavy losses through damage to gjuds belonging to them, Adam's, a draper's, running into over £100. The losses at Dargaville are nothing compared to those occasioned in the lower reaches of the river, especially at Raupo, where the cattle have been standing on fiats for several days with water up to their bellies, and not a blade of grass to be seen. The matter is very serious, as hundreds of acres are submerged and a number of settlers will probably be ruined as the result of the visitation The floods are the largest knoivn for twenty years. The Government and member for the district have been communicated with.
